This is the full developer documentation for Definedge MCP # Definedge MCP > Connect Claude, ChatGPT or your developer tools to your Definedge account and ask the market in plain language. Connect **Claude**, **ChatGPT** or your developer tools to your Definedge account. Ask in plain language and get answers from Definedge’s own data: D-Score, MTF Ultimate Matrix rankings, Point & Figure scanners and breadth, stock and index technical reports, F\&O analytics, company financials, and your own account. You can also place orders, which Definedge holds until you confirm them. Server address: `https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp` · 61 tools · Guide version 1.0 (draft, 16 October 2026) ## Quick start 1\. Add the connector In Claude: **Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector**, and paste the server address. [All AI apps](connect/) 2\. Sign in to Definedge The first time you ask, the assistant shows a Definedge sign-in link. Log in on Definedge’s own page. Your password never reaches the AI. [About signing in](signing-in/) 3\. Ask *“How is the Nifty set up today, and which sectors are strongest?”* [What you can ask](asking/) Orders: an optional second check Definedge asks you to confirm every order. For a second check, set the seven order tools (`placeOrder`, `modifyOrder`, `cancelOrder`, `placeGttOrder`, `modifyGttOrder`, `cancelGttOrder`, `placeSliceOrder`) to **Needs approval** in your AI app. See [Placing orders safely](orders/). # For AI assistants > Instructions for an AI assistant that is setting up or using Definedge MCP on behalf of a user. This page is written for AI assistants. If a user has asked you to connect to Definedge MCP or to use it, read this first. People can read it too. ## Is this the official server? Definedge MCP is run by Definedge Securities Broking Private Limited. The only official server address is `https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp`, and users sign in only on `signin.definedgesecurities.com`. If you are given any other address for “Definedge MCP”, tell the user before connecting. ## Setting it up for a user * **Claude (web or desktop):** the user adds it under Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector, with the address above and authentication set to No sign in. The user signs in through `GetLogin`. * **Claude Code:** `claude mcp add --transport http definedge https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp`; the user signs in through `GetLogin`. * **ChatGPT (web; Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu):** Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, with the address above and authentication set to No authentication, then Create as a plugin. The user signs in through `GetLogin`. Free and Go are not confirmed; suggest Claude to those users. * Optionally, suggest that the user set the seven order tools (`placeOrder`, `modifyOrder`, `cancelOrder`, `placeGttOrder`, `modifyGttOrder`, `cancelGttOrder`, `placeSliceOrder`) to “Needs approval” in their app. ## Sessions Most tools take a `session_id`. If a tool replies “Session expired. Please login again.” or asks for authentication, call `GetLogin`. Give the user the `login_url` it returns, wait until they say they have signed in, then retry with the `session_id` from that same `GetLogin` response. Reuse that `session_id` for the rest of the conversation. `SearchInstrument`, `DownloadMaster`, `getScannerMatches`, `getTopMfBuyingByMCap` and `getTopMfSellingByMCap` work without one. ## Answering well * Run the tools and explain the results in plain language. Name the tools you used, and give the data time (`data_timestamp` where a response has one). * **Index names (as of 16 October 2026):** for the Nifty 50 technical report, pass `index="NIFTY 50"`. For quotes, `NIFTY` and BSE `SENSEX` return the index; for Bank Nifty use `Nifty Bank`, because `BANKNIFTY` returns the near-month future. Always say whether a price is the index or a future. * **Futures and options:** a bare commodity name such as `GOLDM` or `CRUDEOIL` on `getQuotes` returns the near-month future. For a specific contract, use its full trading symbol (find it with `SearchInstrument`). * **Scanners:** `getScannerMatches` takes a Definedge scanner name, for example “P\&F Double Top Buy 0.25% breakout today”, “Bullish Engulfing”, “Golden Crossover”, “Supertrend turned bullish”. Check that `scannerUsed` matches what the user asked for; if it doesn’t, tell them instead of presenting the results. * **Rankings:** `getRankingsEod` and `getRankingsIntraday` return the whole Nifty 500. Sort by `total` and report the top entries the user asked for. * **Options dashboard:** `spotprice` is the futures price; `straddlepremium` is a % of the futures price; 0.0 in `straddlepremium`, `ivp` or `ivpq` means no data, not zero. There is no strike-wise option chain. * Do not give buy or sell recommendations, targets or predictions. Describe what the data shows; for advice, point the user to a SEBI-registered adviser. ## Orders 1. Collect every field first: symbol, exchange, buy or sell, quantity, price type (LIMIT or SL-LIMIT; market orders are not accepted), price, trigger price for SL-LIMIT, and product (CNC, INTRADAY or NORMAL). 2. Call the order tool **without** `confirmation_token`. Definedge places nothing and returns `CONFIRMATION_REQUIRED`, an `order_summary` and a `confirmation_token`. 3. Show the `order_summary` to the user exactly as returned and ask them to confirm. 4. Only after the user explicitly confirms, call the **same** tool with the **same** arguments plus the `confirmation_token`. Tokens are single-use and expire after 120 seconds. 5. If anything changes, or the response is `CONFIRMATION_REJECTED`, start again from step 2. Never invent or reuse a token, and never place an order the user did not ask for. 6. For `placeSliceOrder`, `quantity` is per slice. Afterwards, check the order with `getSingleOrderBook` and the `order_id`. ## More * [Tool reference](../tools/), with every tool and an example question * `llms-full.txt` at the root of this guide: the whole guide as one file # Connect your AI app > Add Definedge MCP to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or any MCP client. You need a Definedge trading account and this address: `https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp` ## Three steps in any app 1. **Check** whether Definedge is already there: **Connectors** in Claude, **Plugins** in ChatGPT. 2. **If not, add it.** Name: **Definedge**. Address: the one above. Authentication: **No sign in** (Claude suggests it) or **No authentication** (ChatGPT). 3. **Sign in.** In a chat, ask *“Connect to my Definedge account.”* and sign in through the Definedge link. Do step 3 again on a new device, or whenever the assistant says you are not signed in. The detailed steps for each app follow. * Claude 1. Open Claude at **claude.ai** or in the desktop app. Go to **Customize → Connectors**. 2. Click **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**. Name: **Definedge**. URL: `https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp`. Click **Continue**. 3. Click **Continue** again. Under **Authentication**, keep **No sign in** (Claude suggests it), then click **Add**. You sign in to Definedge from the chat instead. 4. In a new chat, click **+**, open **Connectors** and switch Definedge on. 5. Ask *“Connect to my Definedge account.”* The assistant shows a Definedge sign-in link. Open it, sign in on `signin.definedgesecurities.com`, then come back and ask your question. **Optional:** want Claude to ask you too before any order? Open **Definedge** in **Customize → Connectors** and, under **Tool permissions**, set the seven order tools (`placeOrder`, `modifyOrder`, `cancelOrder`, `placeGttOrder`, `modifyGttOrder`, `cancelGttOrder`, `placeSliceOrder`) to **Needs approval**. Definedge asks you to confirm every order either way. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan; the Free plan allows one. You can also add the connector in the Claude mobile app: name, address, **No sign in**. Claude’s help centre says connectors added on the web or desktop also appear in the mobile app. Servers added in Claude Code are separate and don’t appear in the Claude apps. * Claude Team / Enterprise 1. An **Owner** adds the connector once: **Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web**. Name: **Definedge**, URL: the address above. Click **Continue**, set **Authentication** to **No sign in**, then **Add**. 2. Each member finds Definedge (labelled **Custom**) in **Customize → Connectors** and switches it on in a chat. The assistant shows a Definedge sign-in link, and each member signs in with **their own** Definedge account. 3. Optionally, owners set **Tool permissions** for the organisation: the order tools to **Needs approval**, or to **Blocked** for members who only analyse. Each person sees only their own Definedge account. Adding the connector for the organisation does not share anyone’s account. * ChatGPT Add the server on **chatgpt.com**. Once added, Definedge also works in the ChatGPT mobile app. This works on **Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu**. On Business, only workspace admins and owners can add one. Free and Go are not confirmed: if your account has no **Add custom MCP server** option, use Claude. 1. Go to **Plugins** (`chatgpt.com/plugins`), click **+**, then **Add custom MCP server**. 2. Name: **Definedge**. Under **Connection**, enter `https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp`. Authentication: **No authentication**. You sign in to Definedge from the chat instead. 3. Tick **I understand and want to continue**, click **Create as a plugin**, then install the plugin. 4. In a new chat, type **@**, choose Definedge and ask *“Connect to my Definedge account.”* Open the Definedge sign-in link the assistant shows, sign in on `signin.definedgesecurities.com`, then come back and ask your question. ChatGPT asks you to approve a Definedge tool before it uses it. You can approve a tool for the rest of the conversation. * Claude Code ```bash claude mcp add --transport http definedge https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp ``` Then ask a question and open the Definedge sign-in link the assistant shows. Claude Code keeps its own list: Definedge added here doesn’t appear in claude.ai or the Claude apps. To block the order tools in a project, add them to `permissions.deny` in `.claude/settings.json`: ```json { "permissions": { "deny": [ "mcp__definedge__placeOrder", "mcp__definedge__modifyOrder", "mcp__definedge__cancelOrder", "mcp__definedge__placeGttOrder", "mcp__definedge__modifyGttOrder", "mcp__definedge__cancelGttOrder", "mcp__definedge__placeSliceOrder" ] } } ``` * Cursor · VS Code **Cursor**: `~/.cursor/mcp.json` ```json { "mcpServers": { "definedge": { "url": "https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp" } } } ``` **VS Code**: `.vscode/mcp.json` ```json { "servers": { "definedge": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp" } } } ``` Use the agent or chat mode, and approve the sign-in when prompted. * Other clients Clients that only support local (stdio) servers can use the `mcp-remote` bridge. This needs Node.js installed. ```json { "mcpServers": { "definedge": { "command": "npx", "args": ["mcp-remote", "https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp"] } } } ``` Is “No sign in” safe? Yes. “No sign in” (Claude) or “No authentication” (ChatGPT) only skips a sign-in step in the AI app’s settings. Your Definedge account stays closed until you sign in through the Definedge link in the chat. Menu names change AI apps rename their menus from time to time. If a menu above looks different, search your app’s help pages for “custom connector” or “MCP”. # Placing orders safely > How orders work through Definedge MCP, the two confirmations, GTT and slice orders, and a safety checklist. You can place, modify and cancel orders on NSE, BSE, NFO, BFO, CDS and MCX by typing, for example: ```text Buy 100 IDFCFIRSTB on NSE, delivery, limit price 83.50 ``` A complete order names the **symbol**, **exchange**, **buy or sell**, **quantity**, **order type** (LIMIT, or SL-LIMIT with a trigger price), **price**, and **product** (delivery = CNC, intraday = INTRADAY, carry forward = NORMAL). If you leave something out, the assistant should ask before it goes further. Definedge MCP does not take market orders. Every order needs a price. ## Two checks before any order reaches the exchange 1. **Definedge’s check.** When the assistant first sends an order, Definedge does not place it. It returns an order summary and a one-time code that expires in 2 minutes. The assistant shows you the summary and asks you to confirm. Only when you reply “confirm” does it send the order again with the code. If anything in the order changes, you get a fresh summary. 2. **Your AI app’s check (optional, recommended).** If you set the order tools to **Needs approval**, your app also asks before each call. Choose **Allow once**, not **Allow always**. ## What you can do | You want to | Say something like | Tool | | ---------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------ | | Buy or sell at a price | “Sell 1 lot of NIFTY27OCT26F at 23,250, NORMAL” | `placeOrder` | | Change a pending order | “Change my last Nifty order to 23,200” | `modifyOrder` | | Cancel a pending order | “Cancel my last Nifty order” | `cancelOrder` | | Buy or sell only when a price is reached (GTT) | “Place a GTT to buy 50 TCS if it falls below 2,400, limit 2,398” | `placeGttOrder` | | Change or cancel a GTT | “Move my TCS GTT trigger to 2,380” | `modifyGttOrder`, `cancelGttOrder` | | Split a large order | “Buy NIFTY27OCT26F at 23,100 in 5 slices of 2 lots each” | `placeSliceOrder` | | Check status | “What is the status of my last order?” | `getSingleOrderBook`, `getOrderbook` | Prices and contracts above are examples only, not recommendations. ## Safety checklist * **Read the summary before you confirm.** Check the symbol, exchange, buy or sell, quantity, price and product. The AI can misread a symbol or a number. * **Check the status afterwards.** An order ID means Definedge *received* the order, not that it is open or filled. Outside market hours a normal order is rejected; ask for an after-market order (AMO) instead. * **Slice orders:** the quantity you give is per slice. “2 lots in 5 slices” means 10 lots in total. * **Orders placed this way show `MCP (...)` in the remarks** of your order book, so you can tell them apart. * **Keep analysis and trading apart in a shared AI workspace.** Members who only analyse don’t need the order tools. * **Disconnect when you’re done** on a shared computer: remove or switch off the connector. AI assistants can make mistakes You are responsible for every order you confirm. Check the details every time. # Asking good questions > How to phrase questions so Definedge MCP runs the right tools, with tested examples. Definedge MCP answers by running Definedge’s own tools on live data. A specific question gets a specific, checkable answer. Name the stock or index, the study and the period. A vague question (“What’s good in the market?”) leaves the assistant to guess which tools to run, and you get a generic reply. Questions like “Should I buy this?”, “Give me a tip” or “What will Nifty do tomorrow?” don’t work well either. None of the tools predict prices or recommend trades. Ask what the data says, then make the decision yourself. ## Tips for better answers * **Name the study if you want it.** “Run the P\&F Double Top Buy 0.25% breakout today scanner” is more precise than “Which stocks are breaking out?”. * **Use full index names for reports.** Say “Nifty 50” or “Nifty Bank”. For futures and options, give the exact contract name, for example `GOLDM05NOV26`. * **Combine views in one question.** “Give me the technical report and the peer comparison for Laurus Labs, side by side.” * **Ask for the “as of” time.** “…and tell me the time or date of each figure.” * **Ask it to show its working.** “Which Definedge tools did you use, and what did each return?” * **Hindi and Hinglish work too.** “आज Nifty का सेटअप कैसा है?” or “Aaj kaunse sectors strong hain?” ## Example questions Each of these was run against the live server on 16 October 2026. | For | Ask | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Market overview | “How is the Nifty set up today, and which sectors are strongest and weakest?” | | Point & Figure | “Which stocks gave a P\&F Double Top Buy 0.25% breakout today? Show the first 20.” | | Breadth | “How many Nifty 500 stocks show a P\&F Double Top Buy against a Double Bottom Sell right now?” | | Stock ideas | “Show today’s top 10 D-Score stocks, then give me the technical report of the first one in simple language.” | | Rankings | “Which 10 Nifty 500 stocks have the highest MTF Ultimate Matrix total score today?” | | Options | “What are Nifty’s IV, IV percentile and PCR right now?” | | F\&O | “Which F\&O stocks saw the biggest rise in open interest today, and is it long or short buildup?” | | Investors | “Which large-cap stocks did mutual funds buy the most last month?” | | Fundamentals | “Compare Laurus Labs with its pharma peers on valuation and profit growth.” | | Commodities | “What is Gold Mini’s near-month future trading at on MCX? Show the bid and ask.” | | Your account | “Which of my holdings are technically weak right now? Explain why for each.” | Stocks named here are examples only, not recommendations. See the [tool reference](../tools/) for everything that’s possible. # For developers > Endpoint, authorisation, sessions, the order confirmation protocol, and when to use the Integrate API instead. | | | | ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Endpoint** | `https://mcp.definedgesecurities.com/mcp` | | **Transport** | Streamable HTTP | | **Sign-in** | Through the `GetLogin` tool: the user signs in on `signin.definedgesecurities.com` and the tools take the returned `session_id`. Connector-level OAuth is optional; clients can connect with no authentication | | **Session** | Most tools take a `session_id`. If it is missing or expired, the tool says so; call `GetLogin`, which returns a sign-in URL and a new `session_id`. `SearchInstrument`, `DownloadMaster`, `getScannerMatches`, `getTopMfBuyingByMCap` and `getTopMfSellingByMCap` work without one | | **Capabilities** | 61 tools; no prompts or resources | ## Orders Seven tools change the account: `placeOrder`, `modifyOrder`, `cancelOrder`, `placeGttOrder`, `modifyGttOrder`, `cancelGttOrder`, `placeSliceOrder`. Values are sent as strings. | | | | --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Exchanges** | NSE, BSE, NFO, BFO, CDS, MCX | | **Price types** | LIMIT and SL-LIMIT only (SL-LIMIT needs `trigger_price`). No market orders | | **Products** | CNC, INTRADAY, NORMAL | | **Validity** | DAY, EOS, IOC; `amo` = “Yes” for after-market orders | | **GTT** | `condition` = LTP_ABOVE or LTP_BELOW; `alert_price` is the trigger, `price` the order price | | **Slices** | `quantity` is per slice; total = `quantity` × `slices`. The response has one order ID per slice | | **Tagging** | Remarks are stored as `MCP ()` | **Confirmation protocol.** The first call to an order tool, without `confirmation_token`, places nothing. It returns `status: CONFIRMATION_REQUIRED`, an `order_summary` and a `confirmation_token`. The client shows the summary to the user and, after the user confirms, repeats the call with the same arguments plus the token. Tokens are single-use and expire after 120 seconds. A wrong or expired token returns `CONFIRMATION_REJECTED`; call again without a token to get a new one. ## When to use the Integrate API instead Programs that trade on their own, streaming data and high request rates belong on the [Integrate API](https://www.definedgesecurities.com/api-documentation/). Definedge MCP is for conversations: a person asks and confirms. ## Machine-readable docs * [`llms.txt`](../llms.txt): an index of these docs for AI assistants. * [`llms-full.txt`](../llms-full.txt): the whole guide as one plain-text file. # How it works > What MCP is, what happens when you ask a question, and what stays where. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools. Definedge runs an MCP server with 61 tools. When you ask a question, the assistant decides which tools it needs, calls them, and explains what came back. | Step | Who | What happens | | ---- | ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | 1 | **You** | Ask in plain language, in English, Hindi or Hinglish | | 2 | **AI app** | Chooses the Definedge tools it needs | | 3 | **Definedge** | Returns market data, Definedge studies, or your account data | | 4 | **AI app** | Explains the result, with the figures and the names of the tools it used | ## What stays where * **Your Definedge password and OTP** are entered only on Definedge’s sign-in page. * **Your AI app** gets a permission token and the data returned by the tools you use in that chat. * **Orders** are held by Definedge until you confirm the order summary. They then go to the exchange through the same system as the Definedge app, and show `MCP` in the remarks of your order book. ## What the assistant cannot do It sees only what Definedge’s tools return. It cannot see your screen or your other apps. There is no live option chain or strike-wise open interest today; the options tools give one summary row per symbol. # Privacy & compliance > What data goes where when you use Definedge MCP, and how to revoke access. * Data returned by Definedge tools is shared with the AI app you use, under that provider’s terms. Organisations should check their AI provider’s data-retention settings. * Account tools return only the signed-in user’s own data. An order-status question returns only the order you ask about. * The assistant’s output is for information only. It is not investment advice or a research report. Consult a SEBI-registered adviser before investing. * Orders placed through Definedge MCP carry `MCP` in their remarks. * To revoke access, remove the Definedge connector in your AI app. # Signing in > When you see a Definedge sign-in page, and how to check it is genuine. You sign in to Definedge from the chat. The first time you ask a question, and whenever a session expires, the assistant replies with a Definedge sign-in link (it calls a tool named `GetLogin`). Open the link, sign in, then ask your question again. To start, ask *“Connect to my Definedge account.”* Do the same on your phone or in a new chat whenever the assistant says you are not signed in. Set the connector’s authentication to **No sign in** (Claude) or **No authentication** (ChatGPT). This doesn’t open your account to anyone: the account stays closed until you sign in through the Definedge link. With sign-in turned on in the AI app instead, you are asked to sign in once more when you add the connector. Check the address Always check that the address bar shows **signin.definedgesecurities.com** before you enter your credentials. # Tool reference > All Definedge MCP tools, grouped by what they answer. Its NAV, returns, portfolio and expense ratio are not available, and the top-10 lists can’t be filtered by category (for example, flexi cap). The lists cover returns up to 1 year and show Direct plans; international funds appear in them too. Your own mutual fund units don’t appear in `getHoldings`, pledged units included. Shares, ETFs and Sovereign Gold Bonds do. ETFs trade on the exchange like shares, so quotes, price history and the stock technical report work for them, for example “GOLDBEES”. # Market overview > Where is the market today? Open the link, sign in, then ask your question again. **"Session expired. Please login again."** Same as above: ask the assistant to log you in to Definedge, open the link, and retry. **The assistant answers from general knowledge instead of Definedge data.** Make sure the Definedge connector is switched on for this chat (**+ → Connectors** in Claude). Mention Definedge or the study by name: “Using Definedge, show today’s top D-Score stocks.” **The assistant says it isn't allowed to explain the data.** Ask again and say what you want: “Explain what these numbers mean.” Definedge is updating the instructions its server gives to AI apps. **A tool returns an error.** Try once more. If it repeats, note the tool name and the time, and email [care@definedge.com](mailto:care@definedge.com?subject=MCP%20Feedback) with the subject **MCP Feedback**. **Prices differ between two answers.** Some tools use the index, others the near-month future, and some use the previous close. Ask the assistant which price and time each figure refers to. **An order asks for "confirmation" although I approved it in my app.** That is Definedge’s own check. Read the order summary and reply “confirm” to place it. See [Placing orders safely](../orders/). **ChatGPT has no option to add a custom MCP server.** Add custom MCP servers on chatgpt.com (not in the mobile app), on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. On Business, ask a workspace admin to add Definedge from **Plugins**. On Free or Go, use Claude. **On my phone, or in a new chat, the assistant says I'm not signed in.** First check that Definedge is listed (**Connectors** in Claude, **Plugins** in ChatGPT). If it isn’t, add it with **No sign in** / **No authentication**. The connector carries over to new chats, but your Definedge session may not. Ask *“Connect to my Definedge account.”* or *“Give me the Definedge sign-in link.”* Open the link, sign in and ask again. # Changelog > Changes to Definedge MCP and to this guide. ## 1.0 (draft), 16 October 2026 * First version of the guide, covering 61 tools. * Orders: two-step confirmation by Definedge; LIMIT and SL-LIMIT only; `MCP` tag in the remarks. * A page for AI assistants, and `llms.txt`, `llms-full.txt` and `llms-small.txt` generated from the pages.
