Placing orders safely
You can place, modify and cancel orders on NSE, BSE, NFO, BFO, CDS and MCX by typing, for example:
Buy 100 IDFCFIRSTB on NSE, delivery, limit price 83.50
A complete order names the symbol, exchange, buy or sell, quantity, order type (LIMIT, or SL-LIMIT with a trigger price), price, and product (delivery = CNC, intraday = INTRADAY, carry forward = NORMAL). If you leave something out, the assistant should ask before it goes further.
Definedge MCP does not take market orders. Every order needs a price.
Two checks before any order reaches the exchange
- Definedge's check. When the assistant first sends an order, Definedge does not place it. It returns an order summary and a one-time code that expires in 2 minutes. The assistant shows you the summary and asks you to confirm. Only when you reply "confirm" does it send the order again with the code. If anything in the order changes, you get a fresh summary.
- Your AI app's check (optional, recommended). If you set the order tools to Needs approval, your app also asks before each call. Choose Allow once, not Allow always.
What you can do
| You want to | Say something like | Tool |
|---|---|---|
| Buy or sell at a price | "Sell 1 lot of NIFTY27OCT26F at 23,250, NORMAL" | placeOrder |
| Change a pending order | "Change my last Nifty order to 23,200" | modifyOrder |
| Cancel a pending order | "Cancel my last Nifty order" | cancelOrder |
| Buy or sell only when a price is reached (GTT) | "Place a GTT to buy 50 TCS if it falls below 2,400, limit 2,398" | placeGttOrder |
| Change or cancel a GTT | "Move my TCS GTT trigger to 2,380" | modifyGttOrder, cancelGttOrder |
| Split a large order | "Buy NIFTY27OCT26F at 23,100 in 5 slices of 2 lots each" | placeSliceOrder |
| Check status | "What is the status of my last order?" | getSingleOrderBook, getOrderbook |
Prices and contracts above are examples only, not recommendations.
Safety checklist
- Read the summary before you confirm. Check the symbol, exchange, buy or sell, quantity, price and product. The AI can misread a symbol or a number.
- Check the status afterwards. An order ID means Definedge received the order, not that it is open or filled. Outside market hours a normal order is rejected; ask for an after-market order (AMO) instead.
- Slice orders: the quantity you give is per slice. "2 lots in 5 slices" means 10 lots in total.
- Orders placed this way show
MCP (...)in the remarks of your order book, so you can tell them apart. - Keep analysis and trading apart in a shared AI workspace. Members who only analyse don't need the order tools.
- Disconnect when you're done on a shared computer: remove or switch off the connector.
AI assistants can make mistakes
You are responsible for every order you confirm. Check the details every time.
